Zooming Through Brussels 🇧🇪🇪🇺
Centre of Brussels, Belgium, January 2023
At the end of January, right after my return from Cyprus, I traveled to Brussels for a short work-related trip. This visit allowed me to attend meetings at my head office and perform my medical check-up. Despite the busy schedule, I took the opportunity to explore the city and enjoy some much-needed sightseeing.
Work and Meetings
My time in Brussels was focused on work, as I had several important meetings with colleagues, addressing various projects and priorities. Additionally, I completed my medical check-up, which added a practical element to the trip.
Sightseeing in Brussels
In between meetings, I managed to visit some of Brussels’ iconic sights.
• Grand Place: The stunning central square of Brussels, surrounded by beautiful guildhalls and the magnificent Town Hall. It’s always a pleasure to admire the architecture and enjoy the atmosphere.
• Manneken Pis: This famous statue of a little boy is a must-see when in Brussels, and I couldn’t resist taking a photo with it.
• Royal Palace: Although I didn’t go inside, the impressive Royal Palace and its gardens were a pleasant sight to see.
A Pleasant Trip
Despite the work commitments, this was a very pleasant trip to Brussels. It was a perfect balance of productivity and relaxation, with enough time to appreciate the city’s charm and vibrant atmosphere.

Cyprus: A Mix of Europe and Asia 🇨🇾🇪🇺
Cafeteria in Nicosia, Cyprus, January 2023
At the end of January 2023, my Mum and I took a flight from Krakow to Paphos, Cyprus, where we spent a wonderful week exploring this amazing island. We were incredibly fortunate with the weather, as it was pleasantly mild for January—not too hot, making it perfect for sightseeing.
We made Paphos our home base, but from there, we explored several other charming spots across the island, some by bike and others through organised tours. Cyprus is a blend of rich history, stunning landscapes, and vibrant culture, and we enjoyed every moment of it.
Paphos – A Historical Gem
Paphos, the town where we stayed, is one of the most historic cities in Cyprus. The city is famous for its connection to Greek mythology, as it is believed to be the birthplace of Aphrodite, the goddess of love. We explored Aphrodite’s Rock, a beautiful spot along the coast, and enjoyed the archaeological sites, such as the Tombs of the Kings and the Paphos Archaeological Park, which are home to ancient mosaics and Roman villas.
Exploring the Countryside and Villages
From Paphos, we ventured to the stunning surrounding villages, each with its own charm and character.
• Kuklia – A small village near Aphrodite’s Rock, rich in history, where we took a stroll through its traditional streets.
• Lofu – A quaint Cypriot village, offering a glimpse into local life and famous for its traditional architecture.
• Pano Platres – Nestled in the Troodos Mountains, this village was perfect for enjoying the cool mountain air and seeing the lush nature that Cyprus has to offer.
• Omodos – Known for its wine-making heritage, we enjoyed a visit to the local wineries and explored its picturesque cobbled streets.
Visiting Nicosia – The Divided Capital
One of the most fascinating places we visited was Nicosia, the capital of Cyprus, which remains the last divided capital in Europe. We explored both the Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot sides of the city, learning about the historical tensions and the efforts towards reunification. Walking through the Ledra Street crossing was a poignant reminder of Cyprus’s complex political history.
Cholraka, Kurion, and Limassol
We also explored several more towns and archaeological sites on the island:
• Cholraka – A peaceful village near Paphos, where we visited its local beaches and traditional markets.
• Kurion – One of the most spectacular ancient sites in Cyprus, where we saw Roman ruins, amphitheaters, and stunning views over the Mediterranean Sea.
• Limassol – A coastal city where we wandered through the old town, visited the Limassol Castle, and enjoyed the lively marina area.
A Wonderful Trip with Mum
The trip was extra special because I had the chance to travel with Mum. It was wonderful to share these memories with her, whether we were discovering Cypriot history, enjoying local food, or simply exploring the scenic countryside together. Cyprus turned out to be an ideal destination for this trip—rich in history, culture, and natural beauty.
We left Cyprus with hearts full of gratitude and memories of an amazing holiday that brought us even closer together.

Winter Homecoming 🇵🇱🇪🇺
A gift shop in Krakow, Poland, January 2023
In January 2023, I spent a significant amount of time traveling around Europe, including Poland, reconnecting with my roots and family. After arriving in Warsaw, I flew to Krakow and then made my way to Nowy SÄ…cz to spend quality time with my Mum and family.
Home Again – Time with Family in Nowy SÄ…cz
It was truly special to be back in Nowy SÄ…cz, my hometown, and enjoy the familiar surroundings. The Christmas lights were still up in Nowy and Stary SÄ…cz, adding a festive charm to the wintery atmosphere. My Mum, sister-in-law Kasia, brother, and I had a wonderful dinner at the Irena Eris Spa Hotel in Krynica, enjoying the cozy ambiance and great food. We also visited Stary SÄ…cz, a place filled with history, beauty, and peacefulness.
Exploring Krakow – A Day Trip with Mum and Pani Kurzejowa
With Mum and Pani Kurzejowa, we made a memorable day trip to Krakow, where we were treated to amazing weather. Krakow, a city full of history, culture, and charm, never disappoints. One of the most memorable parts of our day was visiting St. Mary’s Church in Rynek, the Main Market Square of Krakow.
St. Mary’s Church in Rynek
St. Mary’s Church is one of Krakow’s most iconic landmarks and an architectural masterpiece. The church’s twin towers, which are visible from almost any part of the Old Town, are striking and add a dramatic flair to the city’s skyline. Inside, the altar designed by Veit Stoss, with its intricate woodwork and golden details, is a testament to the incredible artistic craftsmanship of the Gothic period. The church is also famous for its daily trumpet call from the higher tower, which echoes across the square and is a beautiful tradition dating back centuries.
The interior of the church is breathtaking, with vivid stained-glass windows, stone sculptures, and a remarkable wooden ceiling that transports visitors back to medieval times. We spent a quiet moment in the church, soaking in its peaceful atmosphere and reflecting on the rich history it holds.
Kazimierz and More
After visiting St. Mary’s Church, we explored Kazimierz, the historical Jewish district of Krakow, known for its cobblestone streets, synagogues, and quirky cafes. This area offers a rich cultural mix, and it’s always a pleasure to wander its narrow streets, experiencing its unique charm.
Exploring the Tatra Mountains – Snow, Nature, and Traditions
After Krakow, I took a trip to Czorsztyn, a picturesque town still covered in snow. It was a charming winter landscape, with snowy hills, frozen lakes, and a peaceful, serene atmosphere. We also visited Sromowce Niżne, where we walked across the Poland-Slovakia bridge, a symbolic crossing between the two countries, offering beautiful views of the Pieniny Mountains. On the bridge, we paused to take in the natural beauty and history of this borderland.
From there, we crossed into Czerwony Klasztor (the Red Monastery) in Slovakia for a peaceful walk in the winter landscape. The monastery, nestled in the valley, is an important historical site, and it was lovely to enjoy its tranquil setting.
Niedzica, Białka Tatrzańska, and Bukowina Tatrzańska
I continued my journey through the Tatra region, visiting Niedzica with its famous castle overlooking Lake Czorsztyn. The castle’s location is magnificent, and in winter, it seemed even more magical, with snow adding to the atmosphere. We also visited BiaÅ‚ka TatrzaÅ„ska and Bukowina TatrzaÅ„ska, two villages known for their beautiful winter scenery and popular ski resorts. Even with the snow and cold, the charm of the mountains was undeniable.
A Concert in Szczawnica – Winter Beauty at Night
We finished our time in the Tatra region with a visit to Szczawnica, a small town known for its mineral springs and health resorts. The town, especially at night in winter, felt like a winter wonderland. We attended a concert in the town, where the snow added an extra layer of magic to the atmosphere. Despite the cold, the charm of Szczawnica in the winter was captivating, and we felt completely enchanted by the setting.
Returning to Krakow and Home
After our beautiful journey through the Tatra Mountains and other stunning places, I returned to Krakow for my flight back to Warsaw, and eventually, to Panama. This trip was a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with my family and enjoy the beauty of Poland in winter, surrounded by the people I love.

Bardejov: The UNESCO World Heritage List Town 🇸🇰🇪🇺
Town Centre, Bardejov, Slovakia, January 2023
In January 2023, I was back in Europe and had the wonderful opportunity to spend a day in Bardejov with my Mum and her friend Pani Kurzejowa. Bardejov, a town just across the Polish-Slovakian border, holds a special place in my heart. It’s a place I visit often, and to some extent, it feels like home—a town that is deeply connected to the history of the region and shares strong ties with Poland.
Bardejov – A Town with a Rich History and Connection to Poland
Bardejov is a UNESCO-listed town with a rich history, located in eastern Slovakia, near the Polish border. The town has an old-world charm, with its well-preserved medieval center, cobblestone streets, and historic buildings, all set against the backdrop of the Carpathian Mountains. For centuries, Bardejov was a significant trade center due to its location near Poland and other parts of Eastern Europe.
Historically, the town has always had close links to Poland, particularly through its trade routes and shared cultural influences. The Polish presence in the town has shaped its architecture, its religion, and its cultural practices, making Bardejov a perfect blend of Slovak and Polish heritage.
Exploring Bardejov’s Beautiful Town Square
One of the highlights of Bardejov is its main town square, which is surrounded by beautiful historical buildings. The square is an important part of the town’s history and a place where the Medieval market once took place. Today, it remains a lively hub where visitors can admire the architecture, enjoy a coffee, and stroll along the cobbled streets. The Town Hall, located at the center of the square, is a fine example of Gothic architecture, and the Bardejovské Kúpele (the spa town) nearby, also offers a relaxing retreat, reflecting the historical significance of wellness in the region.
The Jewish Heritage of Bardejov
The town also has a notable Jewish history. In the 19th century, Bardejov had a thriving Jewish community. Synagogues, cemeteries, and other remnants of Jewish life are still present today, and they add an emotional and educational layer to the town’s history. The Jewish Quarter is an important cultural landmark, reminding us of Poland’s shared history with Slovakia in both prosperity and tragedy.
Surroundings of Bardejov
The surroundings of Bardejov are equally captivating. The Carpathian Mountains provide an idyllic backdrop for hiking and exploration. The nearby Bardejovské Kúpele, a spa town, has been a popular destination for relaxation since the 19th century, known for its healing waters and serene atmosphere. Pani Kurzejowa, Mum and I spent time in Bardejov exploring both the town and the nearby natural beauty.
Bardejov’s Ties to Poland
The historical connections between Bardejov and Poland are still felt today. The town’s proximity to Nowy SÄ…cz in Poland makes it an ideal place for a day trip. There’s a strong Polish influence in Bardejov’s architecture, food, and language, and many Poles still visit to trace their ancestry or simply enjoy the town’s charm. The relationship between Slovaks and Poles in this region is built on centuries of shared history and culture, making Bardejov an important symbol of East-Central European ties.
A Memorable Day in Bardejov
Our day in Bardejov was filled with warm memories—wandering through its streets, discovering its hidden gems, and reflecting on the town’s deep historical and cultural roots. For me, visiting Bardejov was not just about seeing a beautiful town; it was also a connection to a place that feels like part of my heritage, where Poland and Slovakia meet in a beautiful blend of history, culture, and shared identity.
